Catalina Yarns Inc is a family-owned company - a wholesale provider of natural fibre luxury yarns specializing in baby alpaca and alpaca blend yarns. In the future the collection will expand to include other yummy natural fibres including cashmere, cotton, and merino wool.

Their alpaca yarns are sourced through the largest producers of alpaca fibre in the world. Inspired by the spirit of the Incas, they emphasize working in harmony with the natural world by using technology that minimizes impact on the environment, preserving nature's bounty for future generations. Their supplier's business supports hundreds of thousands of Peruvians, with the goal of improving the lives of peasants throughout the Peruvian highlands. Catalina Yarns’ patterns are designed by Rebecca Sweinhagen, a co-owner of the company.

Alpaca is a natural hypoallergenic fibre with none of the prickle of wool. It is as soft as cashmere and warmer than wool. Alpacas were domesticated by the Incas over 6000 years ago and the finest fibres were worn only by Incan royalty.

100% baby alpaca. DK Weight (4 ply yarn). A beautiful mix of luxurious melange blends, two tone twists, dyed and natural colours combined with uncompromising softness.

Catalina Baby Merino Chunky

60% Baby Alpaca 40% Merino Wool. The superfine merino is light weight and holds its shape beautifully making it perfectly suited to more structured or lighter weight garments. Baby Merino also felts beautifully and evenly in all colours. The two different fibres that are spun together felt at a slightly different rate allowing for a beautiful, almost boucle, texture in the finished item.

Catalina Baby Pima

60% baby alpaca 40% pima cotton. This unusual yarn is 60% baby alpaca and 40% Peruvian Pima cotton. The combination provides the warmth and handle of baby alpaca and the breathability of cotton. The hand, when knitting with it, is more like that of alpaca than cotton, yet the finished garments look and feel like an ultra-soft cotton.
Gauge 5 sts & 7 rows = 1 inch on 4.50 mm needles. 218 yards in a 100g (3.5 oz) skein. This yarn is available in:
